FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a powerful, safe, and gentle medical therapy used throughout the world to effectively treat many health conditions.   The benefits of acupuncture are now well documented by medical researchers and acknowledged by The World Health Organization and The National Institutes of Health.

How does Acupuncture work?
The individual acu-points that make up the acupuncture pathways cover the entire body similar to the circulatory system and nervous system.  Each of these points, when activated by a thin needle, has a distinct effect on the muscles, joints, systems and organs of the body. Some points are used to reduce pain and speed healing while others may strengthen the immune system, digestive or respiratory system.

How many treatments will I need and how soon will I see changes?
The amount of acupuncture recommended depends on the type, duration, and severity of your health issues. Sometimes improvements occur very quickly but acupuncture usually works gradually and requires a course of consistent treatments. This is a tradeoff for a therapy that is safe, gentle, non-toxic, and has so many positive “side effects” like improved mood, energy, sleep, and mental concentration.

Short term (acute) issues may require 2-8 treatments.
Longer term (chronic) issues may require 6-12 treatments before you see lasting changes.

Acupuncture often requires closely-spaced treatments to be effective. We may initially recommend twice weekly until
there is consistent and steady progress. Severe symptoms or pain often requires 3 or 4 treatments in your first week.  Receiving the right frequency of treatment allows you to accurately measure how helpful acupuncture is for you.               Click to learn what your first treatment will be like?
